James Meyl

Dr. James V. Meyl, of Clarks Summit, entered eternal rest on Sunday evening surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, the former Mary M. Tolan. The couple celebrated 48 years of marriage.

Born in Goldsboro, NC, he was the only son of the late Vananda James and Margaret Pugh Woods Meyl.  Jim's educational background consisted of an Associate in Arts degree from Keystone Junior College, a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Finance from Wilkes University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Scranton, a Doctor of Public Administration from Nova University, Florida.  He also attended the Department of the Army, Army Management Staff College. He was a member of the Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society in Business Administration.

Jim was a true patriot, who loved his country, and voluntarily joined the United States Army.  His first assignment in combat was Vietnam.  Jim considered it an honor and a privilege to serve his country with his fellow servicemen and women.  He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Vietnam Veterans of America. For many years he proudly served as President for the Tobyhanna Chapter of The Association of the United States Army and received the Award for Distinguished Service from this organization.  

Prior to his retirement, Jim was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot, where he held various management positions.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Thomas Tolan and his wife, Mary Ann, of Scranton and fourteen beloved nieces and nephews, eighteen great nieces and nephews and eight great-great nieces and nephews whom he and his wife cherished.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Meyl. Jim was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows parish.

 Family and friends are invited to attend Jim's funeral which will begin on Saturday, January 4 at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union Street, Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.  in Our Lady of Snows Church, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit, celebrated by Monsignor Joseph G. Quinn, Pastor.

Friends may call Friday, January 3, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment, with military honors, will follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
