Dorothy L. Souter, 84, a lifelong resident of Montoursville, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday morning, August 24, 2021, at UPMC, Williamsport, surrounded by her family.
Born on December 24, 1936, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Harold Lockard and Anna Konkle Schon Lockard.
Dorothy was a graduate of Williamsport High School, Class of 1955, and served as a committee member for their many Class Reunions.
As a young lady, Dorothy worked alongside her parents on their family farm, Cloverdale Farm, in Loyalsock Township. It was there that her distinguished qualities of loyalty, honesty, hard work, and love of family were instilled.
Dorothy began working in the office of the former Fleck and Marshall Co., and eventually became employed by PENNDOT, District 3.0, Montoursville, where she worked as a clerk typist III. Affectionately known as "Dot" by her coworkers, she was a well-known fixture of the Highway Maintenance Superintendent's office, retiring in 2002 after 35 years of service.
A woman of strong faith and trust in her Lord and Savior, Dorothy was an active and lifelong member of Faith United Methodist Church, Montoursville. A longtime member of her church choir, she had found great peace and joy in singing hymns, and she enjoyed the times she shared with her fellow choir members, especially at their many picnics.
Dorothy never slowed down after her retirement. She was a devoted volunteer as a receptionist in the Laboratory at UPMC for many years; with the General John Burrows Historical Society, Montoursville, were she served on its board of directors; and enjoyed her membership with the YMCA, Eastern Lycoming Branch, where she formed many friendships at her weekly swims and gym visits.
Known for her vivacious and outgoing personality, she loved being involved in her community, weather it was serving as a advocate for various political candidates, especially her long time friend former Mayor John Dorin, serving as a Den Mother with Cub Scouts, Pop Warner Football, many other organizations over the years. To all those she encountered were always greeted with a big smile and a warm hello! A proverbial, "gal about town", Dorothy especially looked forward to her weekly dinner dates with her girlfriends, Jennie, Dorothy, Kay, and Joanie.
Above all, Dorothy's greatest love in life was for her family. Her grandsons held a special place in her heart - they were her pride and joy and she celebrated each and every one of their accomplishments.
The Souter Family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Dorothy's best girlfriends , sister-in-law Diane, her loving niece and nephews Diane, Bill and John for their unyielding support, assistance, acts of kindness and love they bestowed upon Dorothy.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her former husband, John J. Souter; her brothers, William "Bill" Schon and his wife, Helen; Floyd Schon; and Glenn Schon and his wife, Patricia; and her sister-in-law, Joan Schon Merrifield.
