Eugene Paul Carroll, 74, of Taylor, known to all as Paul, entered eternal life early Thursday morning, surrounded by his family at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Doris (Hartman).
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John Paul and Jean Milius Carroll Bugonowicz. In 1966, Paul graduated from Scranton Technical High School. He worked for Heavy & Highway Local 158 and retired from MacTac after 26 years, where he was a machinist. Paul was an expert photographer and avid fisherman who cherished fishing trips with his brother, Vince, and his niece, Leah. He was skilled at collecting and fixing clocks, often giving them to family and friends. After Paul retired, he became a passionate bird watcher and took up cooking, collecting specialty gadgets along the way.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving daughters, Melissa Carroll-Fuchs (Jim) and Jennifer Carroll, all of Pittsburgh. He loved making trips to Pittsburgh to visit his family, including his grandchildren, Karl and Julia. He is also survived by his siblings, Charlotte Haser, Jermyn; Jerry Schuster (brother-in-law), Newburgh, N.Y.; Mary Ann Kapral (Gary), Harveys Lake; Vince (Terry), Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Schuster and brother-in-law, Bob Haser.
Family and friends are invited to attend Paul's memorial gathering Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor. The family request masks be worn.
