Howard Richard Powell

September 17, 1939 ~ December 4, 2021 (age 82)

Howard Richard Powell, 82, of Ransom Twp., lost his brave and courageous battle with cancer, but won his victory in heaven with the Lord, on Saturday surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife and sweetheart, the former Barbara Paroby Powell. In June, they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Born and raised in Taylor, he was the son of the late Howard and Romayne Kammer Powell and was a graduate of Taylor High School, class of 1959. Rich faithfully served our country with the United States Army, where he was a medic in the 28th Division of the 109th infantry. He was a self-employed master plumber and heating contractor all his life. Rich was a faithful and devoted member of the United Baptist Church, Taylor, and was an usher. For many years, he volunteered his time at the Taylor Hose Company No. 2. In his spare time, Rich enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his dad and friends. A man of many enjoyments, his interests were, gardening, canning, riding the mower, feeding the birds, sitting on the front porch, listening to Bill Gaither music and Billy Graham preaching. The holy myrrh, from the Tender Heart icon from St. George's Church, brought him much comfort and joy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his beloved sons, Dan P., Ransom Twp., who assisted with his caretaking; and Gary M. and wife, Melissa, South Abington Twp.; loving grandsons, Ryan, Tyler and Eric, all of Scranton; a foster daughter, April Bradley and her family, Clarks Summit; a sister, Marie Eskra; a sister-in-law, Marge Hartman and her husband, Bob, all of Taylor; brothers-in-law, Raymond Paroby and wife, Carol, Clarks Summit; and Stephen Paroby and wife, Mary Ann, Ohio; nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by a foster daughter, Tina Wegielewski.

Rich's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Dr. Ken Sebastianelli and staff, Interim Home Health Care, Allied Hospice, and to Rev. David Barrett for his spiritual prayers, visits and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to attend Rich's funeral, which will be on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. in the United Baptist Church, 125 Church St., Taylor, by the Rev. David Barrett, officiating. Interment with military honors, St. George's Orthodox Cemetery, Ransom Twp.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.

Although his presence will be missed beyond measure, his beautiful spirit will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends. It's been a LONG-fulfilled life with love and joy. "I love you Richie (Daddy), four bushels." We'll be together in Heaven forever one day..., Tricky.
