Irene Lebeda Ferrett, 95, of Taylor, entered into eternal rest on Monday at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania. Her husband of 65 years, Chester M. Ferrett, passed away Dec. 23, 2011.
Born on April 1, 1926, in Taylor, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Stefanko Lebeda. Irene was a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael's Church, Old Forge, until its closing and then became a member of St. Ann's Basilica. Throughout her life she worked as a waitress at many local restaurants including Terry's Dinner, Moosic. She later found her true calling and happiness when she started waitressing at "Coney Island Lunch" on Cedar Avenue. During her time at "Coney Island" she met many people which then became family to her.
A woman of many enjoyments, Irene enjoyed roller skating, jitterbug dancing and listening to the "Big Band" music. Above all, Irene's greatest love in life was for her family. She will be remembered by her family for her boundless love and devotion, and although her beautiful presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones for generations to come.
Surviving are a son, Richard and wife, Ramona, Mountain Home, Idaho; two daughters, Linda Hranich; and Theresa Gallagher and husband, Robert, all of Old Forge; four grandchildren, Eugene Matisko, Harding; Maria Urban and husband, Michael, of Stoneham, Massachusetts; Katie Wright and Sean Ferrett, Mountain Home, Idaho; five great-grandchildren, Frankie and Max Urban, Mason, Brooklyn and Brinleigh Wright; six stepgrandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Dori, Becky and Megan Gallagher; and her lifelong friend, Anna Mae Fezuk. "Till we meet again.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard J. Ferrett; her son-in-law, Joseph Hranich; and many brothers and sisters.
The Ferrett family wishes to extend their sincerest and heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff from the fifth floor at the Jewish Home, as well as the nurses from Compassionate Care Hospice for the compassionate and tender care they bestowed upon Irene during her final days.
Family and friends are inviting to attend Irene's funeral, which will begin on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica, 1250 St. Ann's St., Scranton. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
