Obituary

Jacob W. Nykaza, 87, a lifelong resident of Taylor, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday at Allied Hospice Center. His loving and devoted wife is the former Marcia Rickle Nykaza and on Aug. 5, they celebrated 26 years of marriage.
Born in Taylor, Jake was the son of the late Jacob and Mary Lisowski Nykaza and was a 1953 graduate of Taylor High School. Early in life, Jake worked for Moffat Coal Company, Nivert Steel and retired from Maid Rite, Dunmore, where he was a mechanic. A man of great faith, Jake was a lifelong member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor. Following the consolidation of his church, he attended St. Ann's Basilica. He was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan. Socially, he was a member of St. George's Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4954, Old Forge and the Taylor American Legion, Post 306, Taylor, where he would often bartend and played countless games of pitch. Throughout the years, Jake enjoyed, listening to country music and the serenity of Lake Sheridan. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family. Jake leaves behind a beautiful legacy that will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Maureen Monczewski and husband, Joseph, Clarks Summit; Claire Warunek and husband, Ken, Scranton; and Rosemary Nykaza, Wilkes-Barre; a son, Jay, Scranton; a sister, Loretta Raynock, Newington, Conn.; three stepdaughters, Denise Kinsman and husband, William, Honesdale; Laura White and husband, Daniel, Jermyn; and Kristien Atkinson and Scott Cruciani, Peckville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Michael; a daughter, Jacqueline; and a brother, Thomas P.
Family and friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor. A blessing service will be held at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions maybe made in Jake's name to Catholic Social
