Joan (Gilmartin) Revilak

July 13, 1944 ~ September 9, 2021 (age 77)

Joan Revilak, 77, of Jessup, passed suddenly and unexpectedly from a tragic fall in her home in Jessup on Thursday.

Born on July 13, 1944, in Newark, N.J. and raised in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Julia Hyduchak Gilmartin. She graduated from West Scranton High School, class of 1962, and received her nursing certificate from Scranton State General Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. She was well known as a skilled and compassionate registered nurse, specializing in critical care, working in the ICU of Moses Taylor Hospital for more than 30 years, then at Mid Valley Hospital for several years until she retired. Her coworkers remember her as an excellent diagnostician who always spoke kindly to her patients, even when they were unresponsive or in a coma, never giving up on them. She has undoubtedly made a tremendous impact on the world through the countless lives she touched.

Joan was a committed Christian and member of Green Ridge Assembly of God and Peckville Assembly of God. Her charitable endeavors included short-term missions working overseas in South Africa, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Throughout her life, Joan was an avid reader and she had a vast knowledge of religion, history and glass works. In her spare time, she enjoyed collecting antiques, making pottery and gardening.

She is survived by her two sons, Stephen and wife, Julie, Arlington, Mass.; and Michael and wife, Theresa, Scranton; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Andrew and Sarah Revilak. She is further survived by her brother, Edward Gilmartin and wife, Celeste, Scranton; sisters, Ann Gilmartin, Scranton, and Rita Beckley and husband, Tom, Exton; as well as a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband, David Revilak, and her sister, Lorraine Dranchak.

Family and friends are invited to attend Joan's funeral, which will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Green Ridge Assembly of God Church, 825 Green Ridge St., Scranton, with services by her pastor, the Rev. David Twiss, officiating. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor.
