John W. Fortuna Jr., 62, of Taylor, entered into eternal rest on Thursday.
Born on March 4, 1959 in Taylor, he was the son of John W. Sr and Margaret Drusbosky Fortuna, Taylor. John was a 1977 graduate of Riverside High School and furthered his education at the University of Scranton, where he received his bachelor's degree in Human Services in 1981. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton.
He was formerly employed by Lackawanna County Children and Youth Services, ICS and as a ground's keeper for St. John the Baptist Church, Taylor and Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton. In addition to being a faithful servant of God, John was a devoted caretaker for his parents, which he performed with dignity and loving care for the past nine years. He was the best caretaker any parents could ever have.
John was an outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing and hiking. He mentored many friends and family members throughout his life. He loved history, especially World War II and reading. He was also an avid hobbyist with Lionel Trains and model airplanes.
In addition to his parents, John is survived by two brothers: Edward, Taylor; and Michael and Lisa, Tobyhanna; a sister, Marygrace Wilce and husband, Dave, Taylor; nephews Anthony and Benjamin Fortuna; David Paul Wilce Jr., a niece Abigail Wilce; aunts, cousins and best friends Joseph and Connie Telesz. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A private family blessing service by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, John's Pastor, will be held in the Semian Funeral LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor. At his request, there will be no public calling hours.
