John T Malinowski

July 8, 1948 ~ March 20, 2022 (age 73)


John T. Malinowski, 73, of Old Forge, entered into eternal rest on Sunday surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, the former Barbara Kakareka. Together, John and Barbara shared 50 beautiful years of marriage on May 22.

Born in Scranton, he was the only son born to the late John J. and Helen Sczykowski Malinowski and was a graduate of Taylor-Moosic High School, class of 1966. John worked and retired from Met Life, where he was a project manager and was also employed by Seaman's. He was a parishioner of Divine Mercy Parish. John would do anything for his grandchildren, they were the apple of his eye. Renowned for his coaching ability, he was affectionately known as "Coach Mal" throughout Northeastern, Pa., coaching and mentoring many young athletes over the years. His favorite team was the Indianapolis Colts. John also enjoyed playing golf. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Jacquelyn (Ed) Gaidula, Clarks Summit; Mark, Dunmore; Joshua (Kadie), Moosic; Maranda and Dana (Jimmy) Kishbaugh, all of Scranton; 15 beloved grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene (Brad) Merritt, Jermyn; and Ann Marie (Bill) Barrett, South Carolina; nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend John's funeral which will begin on Thursday at 10:45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Czestochowa Cemetery, Moosic. Friends may call Wednesday 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
