Obituary

Joseph David Macri, 46, a resident of Scranton, entered into eternal life Sunday, February 27, 2022.

Born September 13th, 1975 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John A. and Carol A. (Smereski) Macri Jr., formerly of Mountaintop.Educated in Mountaintop, he was a member of the 1993 graduating class of Crestwood High School where he played baseball, football and wrestled for Crestwood. Joseph furthered his education by attaining a Bachelor of Arts in History with a Certification in Education from Wilkes University in 1996, graduating in just three years. He enjoyed coaching, umpiring and refereeing sports, like his father.

Following graduation, Joseph taught history at Crestwood, and, at age 25, became the school's Athletic Director. He later became Dean of Students and Athletic Director at Elizabethtown, followed by Athletic Director positions at Susquehanna Township and Reading High. Most recently, Joseph worked for the Salvation Army in Scranton.
Joseph was godfather to his two nephews, Johnny and Michael, and to his niece, Aubrey. He was an avid sports fan and a devoted supporter of the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Joseph is survived by his sister, Paula (Robert) and his brother, John (Nadine) and their children, numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Associates and friends.

A memorial service and interment will be private and at the convenience of family.

Joseph's family would be honored if prospective donors consider a donation in Joseph's memory to the Salvation Army Scranton Adult Rehabilitation Center, 610 South Washington Ave., Scranton, Pa. 18505.
