Linda McElhenny Kacaba, 71, of Scranton, entered into eternal rest on Sunday at the Riverside Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Taylor. She is survived by her husband, Robert and on May 1, they would have been married 50 years.
Born in Scranton, on May 18, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Shirley Bennett McElhenny. Linda was a graduate of West Scranton High School, class of 1967 and attended Kutztown University. Until her retirement, she worked as a registrar at Moses Taylor Hospital. Throughout her life, Linda enjoyed collecting Mickey Mouse memorabilia, going to West Scranton football games, bowling, playing Michigan rummy, bingo, family trips to Lancaster and dinners with her friends at birthday club. She was dedicated to community service, having been a girl scout leader for over 20 years, a cub scout den mother, a ten-year volunteer of the Ronald McDonald House, a PTA committee member of the Frances Willard Elementary School and was an officer at West Scranton Intermediate and West Scranton High School.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Jason, and companion Melissa Sweem; a granddaughter, Alexis, who was the light of her life; a grandson, Dylan; a brother, Robert, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jason and Melissa would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and volunteers of the Riverside Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, as well as Lisa from Compassionate Care Hospice for their kindness and for taking excellent care of Linda, while she was a patient there. They also would like to thank Debby and Tom Murphy for their friendship and support the last forty plus years, along with Kelly Flannery Reed and Joe Cigna, who became Linda close friends, visiting her often and treating her like family
Funeral services will be private.
