Lorraine Dorin Cudo, RN, 82, of Taylor, entered eternal rest on Saturday at her home. She is survived by her devoted husband and best friend, Joseph J. Cudo. Lorraine and Joe were blessed to have celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Born on Dec. 21, 1938, in Taylor, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Soltis Dorin. Lorraine was a graduate of Taylor High School, class of 1956, and after graduation, Lorraine wanted to become a nurse and she received her certification from the former Scranton State Hospital. After graduating from nursing school, she worked at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, then returned back home and was employed for several years at the Scranton State Hospital after which she did private duty nursing. Lorraine truly loved children and she retired from the Riverside School District, where she was the school nurse for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Ann's Basilica, Scranton, and was an active member of Taylor Senior Citizens, serving as past president. Each year, she enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida, always inviting family and friends to visit. Lorraine and Joe traveled extensively by land, air and water, enjoying more than 50 cruises and was a member of Royal Caribbean's Diamond Club. Upon the opening of the Taylor Nursing Home, Lorraine served on its board of directors for many years. She especially enjoyed playing pokeno with her friends at the Taylor Senior Center every Wednesday. Her family was the center of her life, especially her grandchildren, whom she relished in all their accomplishments and was so proud of.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Laurie Gates and husband, James, Northampton; a son, Mark and wife, Christine, Bath; three grandchildren, Jude Dowling and wife, Tiffany; James Gates and wife, Sara; and Dr. Alyssa Gates; three great-grandchildren, Ivy Dowling, Emma and Ryan Gates; a sister, Diane Smith and husband, William, Pittstown, N.J.; nieces, nephews, cousin and many wonderful friends.
A brother, Thomas J. Dorin and his wife, Dory preceded her in death.
Family and friends are invited to attend Lorraine's funeral, which will begin on Thursday at 11:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Ann's Basilica, 1251 St. Ann's St., Scranton. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Taylor. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lorraine's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
