Obituary

Robert Thomas Gilroy, 85, of Taylor, affectionately known as "Gil" to his family and friends, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His beloved wife of 59 years, the former Rita Boyko Gilroy, passed away September 2, 2019.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Robert and Eleanor Jones Gilroy. Bob was a 1954 graduate of South Catholic High School. A proud veteran, Bob served our country with the United Sates Navy during the Korean War. During this time, he was awarded numerous citations and medals. Bob worked for the US Postal Service, for over 30 , retiring as the Director of Customer Service. He was a parishioner of St. Ann's Basilica. The Taylor Senior Citizens, where a big part of Bobs life, serving as past president and looking forward to every Monday and Wednesday, to play cards, enjoy a meal and socialize on current events. Proud of his country, Bob was a member of the Taylor American Legion, Post #306. Bob is know at peace, reunited with his beloved wife, Rita and son, Tom.

Surviving is a sister, Eleanor Arline Rafalko, West Chester, PA; a brother-in-law, Peter Boyko, Scranton; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas J. Gilroy who at the time of his death on December 6, 1996, lived in New Jersey and was Vice President of Financial Management at MTV Networks on Broadway in New York City.

Family and friends are invited to attend Bob's viewing, which will be on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Semian Funeral Home, LLC, 704 Union St. Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Ann's Basilica, 1251 St. Ann's St. Scranton. Interment with military honors will be in Cathedral Cemetery.
